Dr. Yoshimi Okada
"Development for Hydrogen Storage and Transportation technology by Using Novel Dehydrogenation Catalyst in MCH-LOHC System"
Chiyoda Corporation
Yoshimi Okada received his early education at Yokohama National University obtaining a bachelor's degree in 1984 and master's degree in 1986. He entered Chiyoda Corporation which is engineering company in 1986. He worked at R&D Center as a researcher for 27 years majored in Catalyst development. His doctorate is in 2005 from Yokohama National University. He has worked for the development of Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) system for massive hydrogen storage and transportation technology from 2002. He succeeded novel dehydrogenation catalyst for Methylcyclohexane (MCH). Chiyoda establish the system technology through the pilot demonstration in 2014, and the system named SPERA HydrogenTM system. It is progressed to the commercialization phase through the completion of an international hydrogen supply chain project in which more than 100 tons of hydrogen was transported from Brunei Darussalam to Kawasaki, Japan in 2020 successfully. His work is awarded as Jules Verne Award from International Association of Hydrogen Energy (IAHE, 2014), The JIE Award in Technical Division (The Japan Institute of Energy), The Nikkei Global Environmental Technology Award (NIKKEI, 2016) etc. He is a fellow of Chiyoda Corporation, also a visiting professor of Yokohama National University, and a board member of Hydrogen Energy System Society of Japan at present.
